Acadiana Urgent Care

Acadiana Urgent Care Center was among the first urgent care centers in the country to be awarded accreditation from The Joint Commission.  This Gold Seal of Approval signifies a commitment to the delivery of safe, high-quality healthcare.  The center offers treatment for a variety of injury and illnesses, all on a walk-in basis.  No appointments are necessary -- 7 days a week, 365 days a year with extended business hours.  Patients seen at Acadiana Urgent Care Center are treated by highly qualified physicians and staff and are released back to their primary care physician for necessary follow-up.  Patients needing specialty care will be referred to a specialist's office or to an Emergency Department.

Dr. Kirk Smith was born in Auburn, AL and raised in Baton Rouge.  He attended Robert E. Lee High School and went on to LSU for his undergraduate and doctoral degrees.  Upon graduating from LSU School of Medicine in 1983, Dr. Smith completed a transitional internship at Earl K. Long Memorial Hospital in Baton Rouge.  His Emergency Medicine career began at University Medical Center in Lafayette as a staff physician, after which he moved to Southwest Medical Center where he has spent more than 22 years as a staff physician and Emergency Medical Services Director.  Dr. Smith is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and received the honor of being named “Best Primary Care Physician” by the Times of Acadiana in both 2007 and 2008.  Dr. Smith brings his years of Emergency Medicine experience, as well as his caring, professional demeanor, to Acadiana Urgent Care Center.

Dr. Marc LaPointe was born in Lafayette and raised in New Orleans. After graduating from Jesuit High School in 1973, he completed an undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of New Orleans.  Dr. LaPointe received his M.D. from LSU School of Medicine in 1982.  Following, Dr. LaPointe completed a surgical internship at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, AL.  He began his Emergency Medicine career in Cullman, AL in 1983 and practiced there until 1987, when he returned to Lafayette, Louisiana. Dr. LaPointe then spent the next 20 years as a staff physician in the Emergency Department at Southwest Medical Center with his current partner at Acadiana Urgent Care Center, Dr. Kirk Smith.  He received Board Certification in Emergency Medicine in 1992.  His more than 24 years of Emergency Medicine experience make him especially well suited to handle the various medical conditions that may present to Acadiana Urgent Care Center.

Dr. Lisa Smith, a native of Lafayette, graduated from Lafayette High School in 1976.  She received a B.S. in Biology from the University of Louisiana in Lafayette in 1979.  She then attended LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, graduating in 1983.  After graduating from medical school, she completed a transitional internship at Earl K. Long Memorial Hospital in Baton Rouge.  She began her career in Emergency Medicine at University Medical Center in 1984, serving as a staff physician for LSU until 1985.  She has spent the last 22 years of her Emergency Medicine career at Southwest Medical Center, serving as both a staff physician and past Emergency Medical Services Director.  Dr. Smith received Board Certification in Emergency Medicine in 1997 and now brings her years of Emergency Medicine experience and compassionate care to Acadiana Urgent Care Center.
