Millennium Healthcare Management, Inc. has a network of Urgent Care Centers offering ready access to healthcare services when hospital emergency departments or primary care physicians are out of reach. Each center is fully equipped with on-site laboratory, X-ray technology, and board-certified physicians in order to offer the highest quality treatment for a wide range of injury and illness.
Hospital ERs are often overwhelmed with a large volume of patients seeking care, creating long wait times and a high cost for services. Of those patients filling emergency department waiting rooms, approximately 84% do not have life-threatening emergencies and could be effectively treated in an alternate setting, like a regular doctor's office or urgent care center. Access to a primary care physicians can be difficult due to limited office hours and a nation-wide shortage of doctors. This is especially true in south Louisiana and Mississippi where many doctors have evacuated in the aftermath of hurricanes.
By its nature, urgent care is intended for isolated medical events and is not meant to compete with the continuous care offered by primary care physicians. Rather, urgent care physicians work cooperatively with primary care doctors and refer all patients who require necessary follow-up. Urgent Care Centers also utilize emergency departments to treat any patients with life-threatening symptoms.
